Animal Hyperbaric Oxygen Chamber Therapy

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) is an advanced medical treatment offered at our Fort Pierce animal hospital that aids natural healing by reducing swelling, controlling the spread of infection, and stimulating new blood vessel formation in damaged tissues.

The patient is placed in a large, clear plastic chamber that has a pressurized flow of pure oxygen 1.5 to 3 times that of atmospheric oxygen. The consequence of this is a greater amount of oxygen making it into the patient's bloodstream, which encourages better healing.

How Hyperbaric Therapy Works

Patients are laid on a soft blanket to rest or even sleep while the chamber does its work. The increased oxygen level in the chamber works to help with the healing of wounds, swelling, burns, and other injuries or symptoms of illness. Treatments take 1-2 hours and are usually repeated twice daily.

Treatments generally continue until your veterinarian is satisfied with your pet's progress. For example, if they beginning to use an injured limb again, or is generally regaining strength and functioning.
